Dear Self,
- You are most likely expecting a total rock star week, lower expectations please.
- You will snooze the alarm at least three times before getting up to have quiet time. Which, because you were late getting up for, will no longer be "quiet" but instead interrupted twelve times by different children demanding breakfast.
- Your kids will have meltdowns all day because Daddy is back at work. Deep Breaths.
- No one will want to nap, but you, and you can't because no one else will. Expect frustration.
- At five p.m. you will want to lock yourself in the closet and cry for a few minutes. Do what you've gotta do.
Suck it up,
Lindsey
Not so helpful? Maybe your Monday struggles are different than mine, but the heart might be similar. We start out the week with high hopes, expecting this will be the week that we conquer everything we've been needing to conquer.
Truth:
You will not be the better you this week. You will still be frustrated, impatient, quick to anger, and easily overwhelmed. Chances are you won't keep your house cleaner, exercise more frequently, or eat healthier. It will probably shape up about like last week and the week before that.
And God's alright with that. The gospel is good news because it doesn't rely on you getting your act together! God doesn't need you to work harder, check more things off your to-do list, run ALL the laundry, make the trip to the grocery store with all the kids in tow, and teach a ballet lesson in french to the toddler. He loves you and sees you through grace.

Solution:
"But this I call to mind,
and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
The LORD is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the LORD."
(Lamentations 3:21-26 ESV)
Now back to your regularly scheduled Monday.
